Two Family Festivals Celebrate the Salmon Return

Celebrate the return of the salmon and learn about Native American cultures at Olympic Sculpture Park on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. At this free family festival, find out how to care for our planet with earth-friendly art making, live performances and more.

The day will feature live performances by Johnny Bregar and The Board of Education, storytelling by Roger Fernandes, face-painting, a photo booth, seed dissection, an interactive watershed model, marine puppets, and environmental jeopardy. All-day art-making activities will include beading, nature origami, coloring, seed bombs, salmon dedication flags, bicycle chain ring cards, and chalk art. To learn more about this event, visit the Seattle Art Museum website.

Help welcome the salmon home and celebrate 75 years of fish culture at the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery on Saturday, Sept. 8, from noon to 4 p.m. A fun-filled afternoon of activities for families includes a scavenger hunt, hatchery tours and history talk, habitat hikes and educational activities in the Watershed Science Center.

Ray Mullen, a representative of the Snoqualmie Tribe, will perform a ceremony to welcome the salmon home and there will be a carving demonstration. Kids might event get to try their hand at carving. To learn more, visit www.issaquahfish.org.
