Washington’s largest tall ship, the schooner Zodiac, is at Lake Union Park this week to “uprig,” which means putting her sails back up after winter maintenance. The Zodiac has the largest sail on the West Coast and carries 7,000 square feet of canvas when fully rigged.
Come to Lake Union Park on Sunday, April 1, when the Zodiac will take 49 passengers for a three-hour cruise on Lake Union, free of charge. Other boats will sail for the public as well. Sign-ups start at 10 a.m. at The Center for Wooden Boats, located at 1010 Valley St. in Seattle (no reservations are taken over the phone). Rides are at 2 p.m. and sometimes at 3 p.m., depending on demand.
Can't make it this weekend? The Center for Wooden Boats offers free public sails every Sunday at 2 p.m. Only high winds stop them from going out. Read our Seattle's Child parent review to learn more about the experience. Also, while you wait, check out the center's pirate model pond boat sailing on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find out more about this kid-friendly event here.
