Inspire the Minds of Your Children

More than 92 area high schools have students participating in the FIRST ® Robotics Competition Thursday, March 22, through Saturday, March 24, at Century Link Field Event Center in Seattle. This free event is a great chance for children to get engaged and inspired by the work of other teens.

The teams will compete for honors and recognition that reward design excellence, sportsmanship, teamwork and more. The 2012 “Rebound Rumble” robotics game is played between two alliances of three teams each, who compete by trying to score as many of the basketballs in the hoops as possible during the match. Balls scored in higher hoops score teams more points. Team alliances are awarded bonus points if they are balanced on bridges at the end of the match.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a not-for-profit organization, founded by inventor Dean Kamen, dedicated to inspire an appreciation of science and technology in young people. The FIRST Robotics Competition is a program that challenges high school students – working with professional mentors – to design and build a robot to contend in competitions that measure the effectiveness of each robot, the power of collaboration and the determination of students.

The event hours are as follows:

  • Thursday, March 22: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Friday, March 23: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 24: 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
