Let your kids, big and little, enjoy the magic of seeing Tom Hanks' iconic performance in "Big" on the big screen.
The film, which first hit cinemas in 1988, plays this weekend at SIFF Film Center located on the north side of Seattle Center. The screening is part of the year-round Films4Families series, dedicated to screening classic and contemporary films that are appropriate for every age.
"Big" is a story most kids will relate to. More than anything else, 13-year old Josh wants to be bigger, older, than he is. When he finds a strange fortunetelling machine at a local amusement park, that's just what he wishes for. The next morning, Josh wakes up to find that he is suddenly an adult (played by Hanks). Penny Marshal's classic film is a sweet and funny look at how sometimes dreams do come true, even though perhaps not in the way we hope or expect.
"Big" will show four times over the next two Saturdays and Sundays (March 31, April 1, April 7 and April 8) starting at noon. Cost is $4 per ticket.
In conjunction with the screenings, SIFF is hosting a FilmsByFamilies Thematic Challenge. Create a short film with your family using the theme of kids becoming adults and adults becoming kids. For example, film a story where the kids trade places with the adults in your family! Find more information about FilmsByFamilies on the Films4Families Homepage.
