“The Oklahoma! Project” a Rousing Success From Hard Work of Local Students

The 5th Avenue Theatre’s unique educational program The Oklahoma! Project may have finished its run, but there is still buzz about the all-student productions of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! that brought youth from across the state together.

“This project exceeded our wildest expectations,” said 5th Avenue Director of Education and Outreach Anya Rudnick. “It truly was a monumental event that will have a lasting effect on both The 5th and the students … And anyone who saw the show will tell you that what happened on the stage at those performances was magic. I believe these students will be better people for having been a part of this project.”

The three performances were attended by nearly 3,000 audience members, who gave standing ovations at every show. More than 100 talented students from around the state, including students from Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras and Spectrum Dance Theatre, participated in the performances under the guidance of 5th Avenue professional staff and crew. Students assisted with every aspect of the production, ranging from performance and running crew, to marketing and fundraising.

Participating students called the project “life changing.” One girl announced that her participation made her “realize that this is something I really want to do for the rest my life.” For more information about the 5th Avenue Theatre education programs, visit www.5thavenue.org/education.
