There is a hilarious link floating around to a birth plan entitled: Jamie and Jeff's Birth Plan. It's totally tongue in cheek, but absolutely hilarious at the same time. I'm sure that there are some labor and delivery nurses who have read things that probably sound very close to that one.
So what should your birth plan say? Well, that depends on what you want, where you're planning to give birth and some other things. Though, I can tell you what a birth plan is not:
- a contract
- only for people who are planning a home birth
- only for people who are planning a hospital birth
- only for people who want an unmedicated birth
- only for people planning for an epidural
The whole point of a birth plan is to open up communications with your practitioners and the people who are with you when you give birth. Sometimes circumstances dictate that writing your thoughts down make it easiest to communicate it to people with you and other times writing it down is purely for you as a way to solidify your thoughts.
