When your water breaks during labor, it's usually a clear indication that your baby is about to make his or her appearance a short time after that (hopefully), but most moms probably don't think you can give birth immediately afterwards. But that's exactly what happened to one woman in North Carolina who gave birth to a baby boy at a bus stop just minutes after her water broke.
Yes -- I said she was at a BUS stop. University of North Carolina doctoral student Emily Brewer was headed to the bus stop with her 2-year-old son when she noticed the woman was in some sort of trouble. She went over to help her, and even though the woman didn't speak English, Emily realized that she was in labor.
And right after that, she gave birth -- as the baby literally came out and fell directly into her pants. (You can't make this stuff up.)
Emily Brewer quickly called 911, and then she helped clean the baby and tied off his umbilical cord with the new mom's shoelace while waiting for the paramedics to arrive.
Once they did, mom and baby were taken away in an ambulance, and Emily still has no clue as to her identity.
And in case you were curious, her 2-year-old little boy remained calm and stayed by her side the entire time while she was helping the woman giving birth.
I'm sure wherever she is, this woman would love nothing more than to thank Emily for stopping to assist her in her time of need, because most people probably would've been in too much of a hurry to catch the bus to even pay attention to her. It's truly a miracle when good Samaritans just happen to be in the right place at the right time -- even at random bus stops.
Do you ever worry that your labor and delivery will progress too fast?
