Monkey Magic, Feb. 10. Studio East has taken on the year of the Dragon with a colorful collection of Chinese folk tales told in Land of the Dragon story-theater form, enhanced by mime and music. Tales of drama, comedy, adventure and even poetry are intertwined by a magical monkey, who uses his powers to help good overcome evil. Polar Plunge, Feb. 11. Surely most everyone has already taken their mid-winter swim in Lake Union, but if not, here is the perfect opportunity for you. And it’s all for a good cause. This chilly dip helps to support our very own Washington Special Olympics. Chinese New Year Celebration, Feb. 12. If your kids have been asking questions about the Chinese zodiac animals, then put this event right into your calendar. Sponge Language School is hosting a fabulous, free Chinese New Year celebration complete with traditional “Good Luck” foods and the chance to make your own Chinese Dragon puppet. New Year-themed mini language classes will be offered, and a special story will be told about how the Chinese zodiac animals were chosen. Perfect for ages 10 and younger. Yo-Yo Championships, Feb. 25. For the first time ever, the Pacific Northwest Yo-Yo Championships has expanded to two days! Children’s Concert, Feb. 25. It is Cascade Symphony’s 50th season of musical masterpieces, and they are celebrating with a whimsical concert for children. Doktor Kaboom!, Feb. 26. Doktor Kaboom, aka David Epley, science entertainer extraordinaire, puts on a booming interactive one-man comedy show for all ages this weekend.
